In support of its mission, APNEP engages in a number of research initiatives designed to improve understanding of the Albemarle-Pamlico ecosystem. APNEP's Science and Techical Advisory Committee meets quarterly to discuss the results of research and present new avenues for exploration. APNEP's Monitoring and Assessment Teams provide ongoing analysis of the ecosystem in support of the program's Comprehesive Conservation and Management Plan. The Albemarle-Pamlico Estuary Study funded nearly 100 research projects throughout the region from 1987-1994. APNEP's Citizens' Monitoring Network has collected water quality data to support research uses for over twenty years. Finally, APNEP funds direct scientific research endeavors designed to shed light on important ecosystem management issues. Descriptions of these research efforts can be found on the following pages.
