Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program

 APNEP Committees

APNEP engages citizens and organizations through its committees to ensure a cohesive and coordinated approach to managing the Albemarle-Pamlico estuarine system.

Policy Board

The Policy Board works with the Program Office to support, evaluate, update, advocate and guide implementation of APNEP's mission and its management plan. It provides community involvement, participation, and support to the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership on measures to restore and protect the significant resources of the Albemarle-Pamlico region. The Policy Board was established by North Carolina Governor's Executive Order #133 (2012) and includes representation from various interests in the basin. The Policy Board also includes representatives from the Science and Technical Advisory Committee and the Implementation Committee.

Science and Technical Advisory Committee

APNEP's Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) provides scientific and technical guidance to the Partnership on measures to restore and protect the natural resources of the Albemarle-Pamlico region. Since its inception in 2004, STAC has worked to enhance scientific communication and outreach throughout the region. The Committee also acts proactively to bring the most recent scientific information to APNEP and its partners. Two representatives from the STAC serve on the Policy Board, and STAC representatives also consult with members of the Implementation Committee.

Implementation Committee

APNEP is forming an Implementation Committee to execute the actions called for in its Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan.  The Implementation Committee will be composed of representatives from each of APNEP's workgroups.  Each workgroup will implement several closely aligned management actions in various environmental disciplines. Committee members will represent a diverse cross-section of the region's citizens and environmental managers working together on initiatives designed to improve our estuaries. Membership lists, meeting dates, and other information will be added as it becomes available.
