Brownwater Rivers Floodplain Inventory
Beginning in the Tar-Pamlico and Roanoke river basins, biologists from the N.C. Natural Heritage Program will conduct surveys of natural areas in the brownwater floodplains of the Albemarle-Pamlico region. Counties in these basins were partially surveyed as part of the Albemarle-Pamlico Estuarine Study 1990-1993 (click here for reports), but this vast region needs further biological survey in order to be considered complete. The regional survey will identify rare plants and animals, high quality natural communities, and significant natural areas in the Albemarle-Pamlico Region. These river corridors provide important habitat connectivity, preserve water quality, and offer the potential for ecotourism opportunities. Inventory data will help prioritize the protection of these valuable areas. Data collected through these surveys will be compiled and shared with conservation partners through reports, maps, and North Carolina's Conservation Planning Tool. Amount awarded by APNEP: $40,117 |
