Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership - APNEP- Blue Crab Population Dynamics

Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership

 Blue Crab Population Dynamics

As researchers from Duke University study population dynamics of blue crabs, APNEP is supporting efforts to engage high school students from Hyde and Carteret counties in their work. Lake Mattamuskeet and the estuaries of northeastern North Carolina are an important food source for migratory birds, including the endangered whooping crane. In this project, students and teachers will work side-by-side with university scholars and environmental management personnel, collecting water quality information, population data and DNA samples from multiple project sites.
