Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program - Basic Observation Buoy Program

Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program

Basic Observation Buoy Program

Led by the UNC Coastal Studies Institute, this project will expand the existing Basic Observation Buoy (BOB) program to six schools surrounding the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds. A BOB workshop for teachers will be conducted. Once trained, teachers will assist their students in the construction of the buoys, which will then be placed in the estuary to monitor its condition. Atmospheric and water quality data collected from these units will be entered by the students and are accessible online.
