The DENR Manager’s Leadership Forum was held at Brown’s Summit. Secretary Freeman and Chief Deputy Secretary Wilder provided updates of the DENR Strategic Plan. Secretary Freeman talked about DENR's 5-Year Strategic Plan and stated we need to view the plan like a road map for the future... Furthermore, Secretary Freeman gave examples of current efforts being made by the Senior Management Team and stated "we need to share information and talk to people... communications is the key". The Secretary emphasized how important it is to continue to protect our core missions and advance our strategies. Chief Deputy Secretary Wilder presented on the progress being made with DENR's Strategic Plan Goals. Senior Management is focused on customer service and organizational effectiveness which is in concert with Governor Purdue's Rule on Rules. Examples of initiatives meeting the Strategic Plan were presented... Such as with Air Quality, joint efforts with the EPA to reduce air pollution; and shared examples on growing a "Green Economy". On environment regulations, one of the goals is consistent and equal application of the rules; especially in the process among the different Divisions. Chief Deputy Secretary Wilder pointed out that the Strategic Plan is DENR's blueprint and each Manager has a role in it. Each needs to participate! Diana Kees presented on the aspects of communication in Change Management. Suggestions included: · Get out ahead of information; · Make an effort to get information first-hand; · Keep up with your employees to let them know you are engaged in the issues; · Know the processes involved - employee rights and timing of activities; · Gather information on impacts to share with decision makers; · Get directly involved - employees directly involved have the best information on impacts and it gets them engaged in advocating for programs; · Provide sufficient time to employees to go through emotions. | Julie Woosley, Patricia Davalos Sheila Holman, Linwood Peele, Amy Simes |
