You may have heard the phrase around DENR, "XP remediation". The phrase refers to recent and urgent need to replace computers running Windows XP with supported desktop software.
Microsoft has provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. On April 8, 2014, technical assistance for Windows XP will no longer be available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft will also stop providing Microsoft Security Essentials for download on Windows XP on this date. DENR IT is working with the State Office of Information and Technology Services to ensure that our state computers do not become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.
Our IT staff have worked hand in hand with divisions to determine the total need of desktop replacement. Many divisions have already worked to purchase new computers to address this situation as well as ageing hardware in general.
