All sites reside within Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties as defined by the NC State Energy Internship Program of 2011. Pre-regulatory landfills are non-permitted landfills that closed prior to January 1, 1983 when waste disposal permitting regulations commenced.The purpose of this data set is to provide a geographic representation of the pre-regulatory landfill approximate footprints for public distribution. This dataset is intended for general planning and mapping purposes (rather than highly accurate analytical or public health purposes).This data was initially collected and processed during the Inactive Hazardous Sites Branch (IHSB) Solar Energy Project of 2011. This data was processed as input to determine site suitability for the construction of solar energy farms.
